Zuckerberg's Metaverse Concept Looks Dull - Paul Tassi

According to Paul Tassi of Forbes, Mark Zuckerberg's transformation of Facebook into a Metaverse concept is dull and boring. In a recent press meet, Facebook CEO revealed that he is going to convert the social media platform Facebook into a Metaverse company. After few days he shared a conference meeting video with his employees on a VR platform.

The world is looking to enter digital reality known as the Metaverse concept. Many big organizations are working on this project for so long and wanting to invent the actual Metaverse concept initially. Facebook also wants to hold the market with its Oculus Quest headsets.

What Zuckerberg Did:

In a recent interview with the Verge, Mr. Zuckerberg told he's ambition is to create a Metaverse where people can do social networking with the help of virtual reality, and augmented reality. Not only social networking but also office works also can be implemented through these technologies. He said a coherent and persistent environment where employees can share and relate their works remotely, but far better than these usual methods. Methods such as Zoom video calls, Google meet conferences, etc are available for mankind these days after the pandemic. But, Mr. Zuckerberg is planning to transform these meetings into a three-dimensional concept where virtual avatars of the actual players will perform the same amount of work purely in the digital world.

A recent video has shown the concept primarily where few employees of Facebook doing a meeting in their VR avatar in the VR world. With the help of Facebook's Horizon Workroom app, they hosted the whole meeting in Oculus Quest headsets.

Now you can get an idea of how the meetings will take place in Facebook's Virtual World. You can share presentations, display data, etc in the virtual world exactly the same as your Zoom meetings but having a collaboration of all employees in a virtual space. Now, this makes sense as a Metaverse concept, people can work remotely, share their thoughts remotely sitting in their homes in reality.

What Paul Tassi Said:

But, according to Paul Tassi, the metaverse is actually this is not what's been shown by Mark Zuckerberg. In his point of view, he's also correct. Now let's see what's his thoughts on this.

According to the award-winning PC games writer Tassi, the concept of Metaverse is not the same as it's shown by Mark Zuckerberg. The concept of Metaverse is way ahead of this cartooned environment of Facebook's meeting. That cartooned environment looked dull, weird, and boring to Paul.

It's hosted in a virtual reality obviously but it's not the metaverse actually. The avatars may have a three-dimensional appearance but without refinements like missing out of their legs is not a criterion to represent the actual actors. The topic was shown on a dummy presentation, and when things will be tougher to deal with actual real problems with various presentations then the VR world of Facebook may fail in that. Yet it's having lots of applications in the Oculus devices but the overall concept should have to be much wider, much finer, and much in-depth of what's been shown.

Why should've people willing to adapt to this environment where they're already getting everything through Zoom video conferences, or Google meet calls, etc similar to those? Though these applications are not supported on a virtual platform, still the work is been done in the video mode properly. Just to set avatars and sitting with everyone in a virtual space is not Metaverse at all. According to Tassi, few people might spend their time in the new Facebook concept, but the rejection percentage will be greater than the acceptance.

It actually makes sense from Paul Tassi, as when you can work from the devices you already have, why you'll go to buy a $300 values Oculus Quest to do the same work in a new way! It would be better to give money to something better, which is an emergency and which is important in your daily lives. Companies have to provide these costly headsets to their employees to run office meetings remotely in the virtual space. That is not acceptable according to him, spending too much money without the proper result is totally a waste.

I don't think also people will respond to the Quest devices for this kind of stuff! According to Paul, few games were more better and interesting than Facebook's concept. Take Minecraft, or Fortnight as an example. You'll get to see a better metaverse concept without spending more money on it.  Without using a VR device you actually feel the metaverse in those popular games. I think gamers will also support what Paul exclaimed about the Facebook metaverse concept. Gamers are way ahead in enjoying virtual reality with Minecraft, Fortnight, or Roblox, etc.

Final Thought:

Having said all these, I personally think Mark's ambitions are correct and worthy to be praised. We need to move on, technology needs to move on. Future is Metaverse, and Metaverse is calling us. To respond to the call, many techies are experimenting with this concept of amalgamation of virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and advanced internet. But not getting success right now, and it'll take time to see the face of success. Few more years will take to give birth to the actual metaverse.

That's why Paul compared the Metaversing method of Facebook as dull, boring, and childish. According to the business perspective, you'll not be getting to see profit this way! More enhancements will be needed, and I think Facebook's metaverse department is already working to achieve that. Rigorous experiments and more projects need to be implemented before saying this is the actual future we're thriving to see. What's your opinion on Facebook's Metaverse concept? I'm eager to let that know, kindly give your valuable comment below.
